Episode #001 Segment 1
Welcome fellow Floridians and friends to the first segment of the first episode of the South Florida Podcast. In this segment we discuss a teen violin prodigy and self proclaimed Miami Messiah of Surfing, Jack “Murf the Surf” Murphy. Murphy seemed to be destined for folklore when he and his two equally dim-witted accomplices scooted through an open window and stole the Star of India sapphire and the 100-carat Delong ruby from the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Then this ego fueled surf-bum managed to swipe $40,000 worth of jewels from Eva Gabor, yes the one from Green Acres, while she was staying at the Racquet Club in Miami Beach. Then in 1967 his involvement in the brutal murders of two young women found dead in Whiskey Creek near Fort Lauderdale really tarnished his reputation. He went to prison for a paltry 20 ish years. While there he found God, forgave himself, and now preaches to anyone willing to listen and pay the small “speaking” fee. Allegedly. We will dive deep into the smarmy life of the low-life crook and killer, and see what really happened. Oh yeah, we are going to compare what really happened to the Hollywood version that went on film. We will let you know as soon as the episode is ready. Peace & Love! Artie & Gus.
